Review: This one I absolutely loved!
Again, with the same premise, we meet Jeff and Brett again, but this time they are the parents of young jock Adam.
Adam gets in trouble at school, gets suspended, and after finding out he is failing several classes, his parents decide to hire a tutor.
And so it begins… just like his parents once upon the time.
But here Adam is reluctant to identify himself as gay. He refuses to acknowledge his sexuality and give the bullies another reason to call his parents names. It is interesting to see another perspective of the whole gay parents family dynamic.
Adam doesn’t want to be gay because his parents are. He fights those feelings simple because some people are just waiting for him to say he is gay, as a result of having two fathers. This is ridiculous, but that is his perspective.
Until he meets Trevor, and his feelings start taking over and even in his teen rebellious attitude he still finds the truth about who he is and who he loves.
Trevor is out and proud, he makes that clear from day one. And you get to meet a fine young man. Someone that suffers in silence. There are a lot of things happening at home, that will put Trevor through hell and back.
All those things will test Adam’s feelings for the boy.
It was nice to see Brett and Jeff again. In their family roles, as parents. Still a loving couple.
I really liked that in this book there were other subplots, aside from the discovery on Adam’s side, there was the love story and also the family matters.
The moment when Jeff and Brett get to come clean about who the mothers of their kids are was so very emotional and interesting. The adoration Adam has for his father, such a powerful moment after so much teenage angst.
One thing though, Jeff here gets to set the rules for the young couple, about sex in the house and the rest…funny, he was the 14 year old sneaking around to have sex with his boyfriend in book 1! how perceptions change when we become parents, right?
This was a much better book than book one, the writing is still great, full of meaning and emotions. The new MCs are absolutely adorable, both of them. This is a more easy to read, more complex book, so much more happening here.
I loved it!
