Blurb: Former soldier Octavio “Tavio” Reyes works as a barista, a favorite with the customers—especially Tommy O’Shaughnessy. An avowed geek, Tommy comes in daily to flirt, usually under the guise of Trekkie talk. Tavio hesitates; now that he’s out of the army, he’s not sure how out he should be, or whether to take his chances on a geek devoted to sci-fi and comic books. But when Tommy compares him to an unemotional Vulcan, Tavio finally considers dating an out-and-proud nerd. Then Tommy surprises him again and introduces him to his daughter, whom Tommy loves even more than Star Trek or Tavio. Now Tavio has a whole new decision to make: Is he ready to romance a family man?
Review: A lovely view into the beginning of the love story of two wonderful, damaged, beautiful, strong and original men. Men who many overlook as too quiet, different, angry, geeky, rejectable. Men who have known pain and fear and are still dealing with the scars of the past.
While this story is short and sweet, it is not simple. There are layers and hidden meanings and nervous anticipation. There are delightful secrets that make everything harder and more important and worth everything. There are feelings and courage and risk. There is desire and understanding and the ability to see beauty where most don’t bother to look.
These men aren’t easy or typical, they are more together, for each other, in response to one another, because and for the chance of being worthy of the other.
I loved it and really want there to be more. Please tell me that we get more of these men and their story.
