Quad Shot of Love

Blurb:  When physics grad student Fielding Monroe and skirt-chaser and football player Mick Colman become college housemates, they’re both in for a whole new education. Mick is good at looking out for the absent-minded genius, and he helps Fielding clean up his appearance and discover all the silly pleasures his strict upbringing as a child prodigy denied him. They become best friends.

It’s all well and good until they run into a cheerleader who calls Mick the ‘best kisser on campus.’ Fielding has never been kissed, and he decides Mick and only Mick can teach him how it’s done. After all, the physics department’s Christmas party is coming up with its dreaded mistletoe. Fielding wants to impress his peers and look cool for once in his life. The thing about Fielding is, once he locks onto an idea, it’s almost impossible to get him to change his mind. And he just doesn’t understand why his straight best friend would have a problem providing a little demonstration.

Mick knows kissing is a dangerous game. If he gives in, it would take a miracle for the thing not to turn into a disaster. Then again, if the kissing lessons get out of hand they can always blame it on the mistletoe.

Reviews:

Beans:  I adored this story. The dynamics between Fielding and Mick are fantastic. Mick completely respects Fielding and from the first moment they met, liked him. They quickly become best friends and the road to more is a fun journey. I liked how there is a base of support, respect and admiration from both of the men. There is no pity, only understanding.

Fielding wants his first kiss to be special, or at least he doesn’t want to look like an idiot. When he starts his pursuit of convincing Mick to teach him how to kiss it’s hilarious. There is tension as well. I like that the author gives us an inside view into both Mick’s frustration, and Fielding’s feelings. The balance is well done.

Their relationship is complicated and beautiful. I enjoyed this story. It was sweet and put me in the holiday mood…I might have to pick up some mistletoe to get into the holiday spirit even more.

Nina:  I really enjoyed this holiday novella of best friends to lovers. I loved the dynamic between the guys and their very special friendship.

Mick is a confident guy who is used to getting pretty much any girl he looks at into bed. He has had some thoughts and desires that he has suppressed through the years and he is still living in deep denial about the things that Fielding makes him feel.

Fielding is special, in the best and strangest way possible. A super genius who’d been restricted to a very sheltered life, he had almost no experience outside of his studies, until he moved in with Mick. There is a sweetly innocent quality to Fielding that I adored. He was brilliant and focused and just fabulous.

I loved the compassion and admiration that Mick has for Fielding. He was Fielding’s first real friend and the one who introduced him to almost all of his typical firsts so it makes sense that Fielding would look to him when he decides it is time to have his first kiss. Who else would he even consider asking? Mick is the center of his world as much as Fielding is of Mick’s.

This is a wonderful little gem of a holiday story. I enjoyed every moment I got to spend with these beautiful boys.
