Quad Shot of Love

Quad Shot of Love

Blurb:  Tomoki Yonemura, vocalist with popular British rock band Traction Yen, is celebrating New Year’s Eve in Japan during their tenth anniversary tour when he pulls a fortune at a temple. He thinks nothing of its promises for love in the new year—until back home in London, he meets Alex MacKinzey, a gruff auto mechanic who helps him out of a tight spot.

Neither expects the strength of love that develops throughout the year, but it will be put to the test as Tomoki’s fame clashes with Alex’s insecurities. Fortune brought them together, but will it also tear them apart?

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2013 Advent Calendar package “Heartwarming”.

Reviews:

Beans:  Okay, so truth is, whenever I come across a rock and roll band story I pass on it, or pass it along. It just isn’t my trope of choice. But I was enchanted with Alex. He was not your typical band groupie. He wanted a partner. Someone real and steady. He never thought that a singer and songwriter would fit that mold. But it did.

The story was helped by the age of the men. If they had been young boys or men in their 20’s I think this book would have felt unbelievable. But because they were older, and wiser, and had lived they were able to behave in a way that was wonderful to read. A nice take.

Nina:  This was sweet and cute and I liked the way they paced it so time passed and we kind of checked in with the guys, seeing brief moments that defined their year and the development of their relationship. I liked the contrasts and the delicious heat between them.

Then things went wrong for them and for me. Tomoki had no compassion or understanding for Alex’s fears and insecurities.  Everything was to be his way and all work, understanding and compromise was to be done by Alex. Rather than offer comfort and reassurance or even having a conversation about why Alex was feeling overwhelmed and inadequate next to the lifestyle of a rock star there was a tantrum and immediate abandonment.  Unfortunately, Alex fell into line and was willing to do whatever he had to to keep Tomoki happy. I guess that was supposed to be a happy ending.
