Quad Shot of Love

Blurb:  When Rob’s dad was injured by an uninsured driver, it spelled the end of Rob’s carefree childhood and, more important to Rob, the idyllic Christmases they used to have. Hard work and sacrifice nets him a degree in computer programming and then a contract at a rapidly-growing video game company. Things are looking up, especially when he meets his new System Administrator. But the closer it gets to Christmas, the more bugs there are in the system.

Shawn’s found him. The Guy. But Rob’s had it rough and it’s been years since he’s been anything but responsible. It all comes boiling to the surface when a family financial crisis is followed by a work emergency that ruins Rob’s plans to bring Shawn home to meet the family over Christmas holidays.

With Rob’s mood growing darker the closer it gets to Christmas, Shawn needs to find some way to give Rob the Christmas he’s so desperate for. And he just might have the plan…

Review:  If you haven’t yet put it together from my tweets, I’m kind of a geek. A Star Trek watching, Star Wars action figure collecting, The Lord of the Rings quoting geek. We geeks stick together, even if Rob and Shawn aren’t my kind, but are tech geeks instead, I was rooting for these guys to have a wonderful Christmas.

We are first introduced to Shawn and Rob just as they meet, when Rob begins a job at the same video game company Shawn works IT for. After a few pages of their beginning relationship we move months forward into their current dating situation. They have been together all this time, and at this point it is becoming obvious to Shawn that Rob is under a much more intense financial stress than he previously thought.

Rob has contributed money to his father’s care for years which prevented him from really enjoying many of the things his boyfriend Shawn takes for granted. These divergent experiences with money throughout their lives creates a strain on their relationship. But with the holiday this is the perfect opportunity for Shawn to show Rob the simple joys of Christmas.

Based on the blurb I was expecting the story to be from Rob’s point of view, not Shawn’s. It was interesting to see how Shawn reacted to Rob’s situation, though I would have liked to read what Rob was thinking as well. I was also a little confused by some of the tech speech, there wasn’t really a lot but what was there was over my head! But overall the story was just a cute read with a little tension, hilariously adorable nicknames, and a heart meltingly sweet Christmas holiday.
