A Cole McGinnis Mystery

Sheila Pinelli needed to be taken out.

Former cop turned private investigator Cole McGinnis never considered committing murder. But six months ago, when Jae-Min’s blood filled his hands and death came knocking at his lover’s door, killing Sheila Pinelli became a definite possibility.

While Sheila lurks in some hidden corner of Los Angeles, Jae and Cole share a bed, a home, and most of all, happiness. They’d survived Jae’s traditional Korean family disowning him and plan on building a new life—preferably one without the threat of Sheila’s return hanging over them.

Thanks to the Santa Monica police mistakenly releasing Sheila following a loitering arrest, Cole finally gets a lead on Sheila’s whereabouts. That is, until the trail goes crazy and he’s thrown into a tangle of drugs, exotic women, and more death. Regardless of the case going sideways, Cole is determined to find the woman he once loved as a sister and get her out of their lives once and for all.

Review:  I deeply enjoy this series.  I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys books that are sexy, sweet, funny, have interesting mysteries and a moving, emotional and smoking hot love story.  These people will pull you into their lives and have you on the edge of your seat in anticipation, sighing and hoping, laughing and even crying.  They are absolutely gorgeous.

This is the fourth book in the Cole McGinnis series and you have to read the other books before you read this one.  There is so much to these guys’ story and their friends and family and the journey they have taken to get to this point.  You do not want to miss out on the awesomeness that is this series.  Not to mention the fact that you will get addicted to this world and be begging for the next one.

This book takes up where the previous book left off.  Our guys are dealing with life after Jae’s shooting and trying to live with the nut job who did it still out there, possibly waiting for a chance to finish the job.  There is so much love between these two.  There is so much love in the family they have created together.

I loved where the men are in their lives and relationship.  Both are in a good place career wise and Cole’s wonderful family has embraced Jae.  Even as Jae has lost his connection to his abusive mother, with Cole’s help, he has found common ground with his sister.  It is amazing what the power of love can do, it is hard to condemn true love and caring when you see it and the love between Cole and Jae is tangible and an excellent argument in the face of prejudice.

While this is the Cole McGinnis Series and it is definitely Cole and Jae’s love story it contains so much more than that.  There are so many excellent characters, each with their own story that has slowly unfolded as we have spent time with them all.  The people that fill their lives with love and laughter and the support that keeps them whole.  There is little to no doubt that several of Cole’s crazy misadventures would have found him in serious jeopardy if not for his brother, Mike, bailing him out or his best friend/partner in crime, Bobby, saving his butt.

I adore Bobby and the relationship that the two men share.  There is nothing sexier than a big strong tough guy who knows how to be gentle and caring when it’s needed.  There were some moments between Cole and Bobby that had me near tears with their beauty.

Anyone who has read Rhys Ford knows that she rocks the cliffhanger ending to each installment like nobody’s business.  This book is no different.  At the end I was left desperate for the next story.  My money is on you messaging Rhys and asking when the heck we get to read what happens next.  Fair warning: she will cackle.
