Lifting the Veil: Book Four

Trying to jumpstart his waning career in travel and nature journalism, Jim Faulkner jumps out of a plane in the middle of the night to get the inside scoop on werewolves in Connor’s Crossing, Wyoming. Unfortunately, he lands in a tree and gets stuck. His rescuer is a mysterious and solitary man living in a cabin in the woods. Although Jim feels an odd connection to Dakotah, Dak’s silence is all but hostile.

Jim won’t give up though—he finds ways to be around Dak, both for the bond and his belief that Dak is a great source for wilderness information. As Dak continues to dismiss him, Jim is suddenly surrounded by progenitors—the most powerful werewolves in existence—who all seem to want Jim as their mate. After one abducts him, Jim has to fight for his freedom and for his one true mate. No matter how reluctant said mate is.

Review:  Lifting the Veil Book Four: Love of the Wild, although this book is part of a series it can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed ‘Monsters Under The Bed‘ in this series and had a lot of expectations for this one. I found ‘Love of the Wild’ a little predictable and therefore didn’t enjoy this read as much as I had hoped to. Having said that if you are a big fan of m/m shifter wolves and Lycans you’ll love this.

Jim is in his forties; he feels life is slipping by and sets about making some changes. Being a bit of an adrenalin junky, Jim chooses jumping out of an aircraft in the middle of the night as a smart move to kick-start his self-worth. Although this soon becomes a disaster, leaving Jim dangling dangerously from a tree by his parachute, in the darkness miles from civilisation. This is just the start of his adventures, and Jim finds himself with so much more than a story to boost his career.

Dakotah, who is known as Dak, is a settled, quiet being, living life without too much complication, and that’s the way he prefers it. Living his days in a cabin in a forest in solitude, without any interference from the rest of the world. So, the last thing he expects or wants is Jim, who just happened to drop out the sky and into his arms. Dak tends to Jim’s wounds helping him heal before sending Jim on his way to the nearest town with a local called Daniel.

Despite Dak’s nursing and caring efforts towards Jim, he soon wants Jim out of the way and makes his intentions known. Leaving Jim somewhat confused and disappointed with a slightly bruised ego. Feeling disgruntled Jim heads off to the town of Connor’s Crossing with Daniel to carry on with life. Jim has every intention in continuing with his original plans, but he can’t get Dak out of his head.

Jim makes new friends within Connor’s Crossing, this gives him the opportunity to dig for information regarding his wild living rescuer. What is revealed to Jim is far more than his imagination could have thought. Should he run, could he run? would he use this information given to him against those who have befriended him? Jim has some decisions to make. Should he give up, feeling it could be a worthless task or fight and follow his gut instinct.

This book is filled with all the elements of a shifter story with likeable characters, plenty of action and possibly the longest sex scene I’ve read to date.
