Review:  You really have to read the first book in the series , Capture before you start on this story. There is too much background and world building. Capture is a fun book so go get that book and then come back.

The epic story continues in the second installment. We learn a lot more about the elves as our intrepid couple spends time in the elven city of Alel for Princess Cerylea and Prince Morkryn’s wedding. We have more dangerous adventures. And most importantly, we have more dragon time!

Prince Ryneq and newly announced King’s Consort Nykin are adjusting to married life. Events push up Cerylea’s wedding so the guys have barely had their own celebration before they’re rushing to Alel. Both are going to have to adapt to the changes their new status creates in their lives. It’s a huge change for Nykin, who went from orphaned dragon rider to living in the castle with Ryneq.  But Nykin really wants to make a life together with his King.

The elves are awesome. We see more of their friends from the first book and meet a whole bunch more once they get to Alel. I loved the descriptions of the city and how their magic works, they’re very connected to nature to the point the two are intertwined in numerous ways. Also, their magic is purple! I know. Right? And they are all gorgeous, of course, but also very kind and welcoming.

Fimor is his usual wise and bad ass dragon self. He is called upon to save the day more than once and he’s very cool about the curiosity of the elves about dragons and their magic. The bond between Nykin and Fimor must be stronger than ever if everyone is going to survive the tricks of their enemies.

This series is a lot of fun and very sweet. I really appreciated that most of the drama was from the situation and not from stupid misunderstandings or miscommunications. Everyone is an adult and they are dealing with treachery and war, they don’t waste their time getting hurt feelings or storming off in a huff. The world building is very well done. Hopefully I won’t have to wait long for my next visit to Torsere and Alel, where we get to ride Fimor.
