Title: All’s Fair in Mate Bonds and Publishing (Confessions of a Werewolf Editor: Book 1)
Author: Alana Ankh
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Length: 117 pages
Rating: C+
Blurb: For Killian Marsden, werewolf romance is overrated. After all, he should know, since he’s a half-werewolf and an editor for a romance-publishing house. He’s tired of reading mate bond fairytales, because real life doesn’t work that way. In the real world, Alphas abandon their half-breed children. Not that Killian’s jaded or anything. Simply realistic. So when werewolf Alpha Brett comes knocking, demanding explanations on a rejected manuscript, Killian reels away, or at least tries to.
Brett is a walking, talking Alpha cliché: big, possessive, and growly. His last name is Wolfe, for crying out loud. But Brett is also trustworthy, devoted to his pack, and a little silly when in love. Soon, Killian discovers that maybe, just maybe, he might love Brett in return.
Unfortunately, Killian is not the only one who wants to claim Brett. He will have to set aside his beliefs about mate bonds and deadbeats if he wants his own happily ever after werewolf romance.
Review: A fun and sweet read about werewolves, neurotic authors, editors, and crazy pack dynamics.
Killian has a bit of a chip on his shoulder about werewolves and most especially alphas. His own status as a half-werewolf has left him on the outside of the shifter world. Most of his interactions have been negative and he doesn’t have any interest in getting involved with a bossy alpha when Brett storms into his life. But not even his jaded heart can resist the combination of the mate bond and Brett’s earnest wooing.
Brett is an alpha with a big heart and a willingness to do whatever necessary to make his mate happy. Brett’s life is a mess, which he realizes when he meets his mate, Killian. While he had been willing to go along with the plans for him to marry an alpha female to carry on his family line, that plan goes out the window as soon as he scents Killian.
I really enjoyed watching these two figure out how to be together and work out all of the details. They are both such sweethearts and are willing to try to make the adjustments to be able to make a life with one another.
The parents and secondary characters were well done. There was so much drama going on there and a lot of ugliness and pain. I was glad that the guys were able to make choices that were healthier and benefitted everyone.
A charming short story that was a bit silly, with some snark and chuckles. Recommended for those who like a book that doesn’t take itself too seriously while still bringing the heat and the sexy werewolves. And who can resist this fantastic title?
