Up All Night Satisfaction

Blurb:  After graduating from high school early, twenty-year-old Philippe Bergeron spent the past several years lost among the stars while fishing off the New England coast. A shoulder injury ends his dream of living reclusively on the water, and he finds himself lost among the bright lights of New York City. His older brother, Henri, has asked Philippe to chaperone his seventeen-year-old niece, Sophie, on her tours of the city’s legendary dance programs.

Sophie meets with professional dancer and choreographer, Dario Pereira, to prepare a routine for her college auditions. Dario’s cool perfection and immaculate style contrast with Philippe’s awkward scruffiness, but it wakes desires Philippe thought he’d left behind. When the attraction is surprisingly returned, Dario’s confidence won’t let Philippe remain invisible. Unsure but curious, Philippe relaxes his rule of isolation, and as the summer progresses, his relationship with Dario leads him to a surprising discovery of his submissive sexual tendencies and a greater sense of self-awareness.

Tragedy threatens to destroy the connections Philippe has made and forces him to retreat into the shadows of his past, far from the radiance of Dario’s love. Ultimately, he must decide if it is time to stop hiding and set himself free.

Review:  Okay, you are here reading my review of Out of Hiding that is a good first step. Now I would like you to stop what you are doing, roll up, click on the buy link…. have you clicked yet? No? What are you waiting for?! Oh, my review… well let’s get this on then so you can pick up this book and read it immediately!

I was struck from the first page with the writing. It’s first-person and deep first. First person is incredibly easy to write badly and extraordinarily hard to do well. And this author was brilliant. By page three, I was reading out loud to my husband, the words so beautifully well done I had to share.

Several times throughout the book I had to stop reading to be able to breathe. The depth of the emotion carried me along and I was completely caught up in it.

Phil is hiding. He is hiding not just from others eyes but from his own demons he has to wrestle. He doesn’t like to be the center of attention and would rather live a life invisible. Mostly because he believes that love and pain are too tied up in one another. And he doesn’t know if he could survive the love again.

Dario is a dancer. He is a teacher. He is an artist. He is also alone in the world working with everything he has to live his dream. He sees Phil. Really sees him and decides that this beautiful broken man is going to be his. His family.

Oh gosh,  the journey these men take. Control, submission, love, pain, family, they all have to be wrestled with. Phil has to learn to fight instead of flight. And Dario has to move slowly and firmly to keep his family intact.

We are halfway through 2014 and Out of Hiding made my top 3, of books I have read this year. I highly recommend this book. A brilliant piece.  An amazing story.
