Blurb: Seth Wild is a fire fighter who has lost everything. Nearly dying in a building collapse, he is scared and angry and chases away the only good thing in his life—school teacher Casey McGuire.
When a sudden and violent snow storm hits their town he receives a message Casey and ten kids are trapped in an education center with no way out. There is no one else who can help, he’s the last fire fighter in town with his bum leg and his icy heart.
He doesn’t hesitate. He always promised he would be Casey’s hero, but will he ever again be Casey’s love?
Review: An adorable novella about a sexy fireman and a hot teacher and how getting trapped during an epic snowstorm helped them find their way back to each other.
Seth is so stubborn and locked into a macho mindset when we first meet him. He’d been badly hurt when things went very wrong during a call. When he shut down and refused to allow Casey to participate in his recovery he didn’t realize that he’d be pushing his boyfriend all the way out of their home. He’s so angry and in such physical and emotional pain. It’s easier to blame Casey for leaving him because he’s not the man he used to be than to accept that he needs to change some of his backwards thinking and let Casey be strong for him.
Casey is cool and quiet. Sensitive and more emotionally aware, he’s always been willing to accept Seth and his macho job. He usually lets things roll off of him by swallowing the emotions and words. But he’s been pushed past his limits and he’s heartbroken by the loss of a love he thought would be forever. He wanted to be there for his best friend and lover in every way. Seth’s anger finally drove him away and he’s started to give up hope.
When Casey messaged Seth about the group outing Seth had bailed on being stranded during a snowstorm that just keeps getting worse, he never thought that his ex boyfriend would be the one who would actually show up to save them.
They’ve been friends since they were kids and lovers for the past five years. They don’t know how to not care or be there for each other. They fight and snap and snark, all the while working as a team to take care of the teens. But the situation draws out and the danger is felt and suddenly they’re able to be real with each other in ways they never have been before. Honest and genuine and with hearts laid bare.
The tension and pain between the men is palpable, as is the love and devotion. There is never any doubt that these men are deeply in love. But sometimes love isn’t enough and that created the crux of this story. What would be the tipping point for them? And when they fell would they land together or would they really be done with each other?
I really liked this story. It was fun and sweet and I was rooting for the guys to get back together. I loved the growth that Seth experienced as he examined his life and really thought about why he’d allowed things to get so bad between them.
Another great story by RJ Scott full of action, emotion and sexy men in love.
