Polar Nights (Arctic Love: Book 1)
Author: T.T. Kove
Publisher: Less Than Three Press
Length: 84 pages
Blurb: Andreas has been in love with Christian for as long as he can remember, but he’s also always known it would remain one-sided. When he travels to Svalbard to take the last years of his Masters, spending time with Christian again brings back those feelings and makes life more than a little awkward.
The very last thing Christian needs is to have a very grown, very stunning Andreas living with him for a few weeks. Even the awkwardness between them is not enough to stop his attraction. Neither is the fact that Andreas is his sister’s stepson.
Review: This is the first book in a series about an arctic island and its inhabitants. Most everyone has come from somewhere else and found that Svalbard has become their home. There is a polar night of darkness that lasts for four months as well as a midnight sun.
Andreas is very private, a little shy and quiet. He is very intelligent and devoted to his studies. Andreas cannot speak around his longtime crush, Christian. Christian is Andreas’ stepmother’s brother and Andreas has been infatuated with him for years when he moves to Svalbard to finish his masters degree in meteorology.
Christian is a nice guy. There isn’t much of a social scene in their little town of Longyearbyen, but he has close friends and a steady business. Christian lives on Svalbard and runs an outdoor tour guide business, Arctic Adventure, with his best friend, Jonathan.
To say that the family situation complicates the romantic nature of the men’s attraction is putting it mildly. They both hesitate to pursue more at first, but they really like one another and the sexual heat between them is incendiary. Neither can resist for long and the emotions are intense from the beginning. While they have known each other for years, they were never close and Christian wasn’t around much while Andreas was growing up. There is an eight year age gap of Christian’s thirty-two years to Andreas’ twenty-four, and absolutely no biological ties.
This is a sweet and engaging short story. I was fascinated by the weather and the tiny island that they live on. The next books were set up well and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. A nice quick read that will have you looking for more about this world and the sexy men who live in it.
